Limited Prelims Scratches at Atlanta Classic Day 1, Hamblin Drops 100 Breast

2021 ATLANTA CLASSIC

There were very few event scratches going into the first prelims session of the 2021 Atlanta Classic. The meet will kick off Friday morning at 9 am Pacific Standard Time at the McAuley Aquatic Center with the 200 free, 100 breast, 100 fly and 400 IM.

The only event scratch from within the top ten came from 17-year-old Kaylee Hamblin of Mecklenburg Swimming  Association who was ranked 8th in the 100 breast. This was the only event she was scheduled to race during Friday’s prelims session. She recently dropped a lifetime best time in this event in February.

Scratches among the top-20 seeds included Race Pace Club’s Holden Smith, ranked 18th in the 100 fly, and Emily Hetzer, ranked 19th in the 400 IM. Hetzer will contest the 200 free where she is ranked 17th, but this was Smith’s only event for the whole meet.

Aryan Makhija, ranked 27th in the 400 IM, scratched the event alongside Mitch Dubey who was ranked #38. Makhija will race the 200 free during the session where he is ranked 48th. This was the only event for the day for Dubey

Marlins of Raleigh’s Caroline Crouse went into this meet with a packed schedule as she was signed up for the 200 free, 100 fly and 400 IM on Friday (the last two of which are back-to-back events.) She opted to scratch the 400 IM and focus on her other two events this morning. Crouse is ranked 50th in the 200 free and 38th in the 100 fly.
