A part of the ASU Pro squad, Drew Kibler trains with Leon Marchand daily. Kibler, who is racing in Westmont, IL at the Pro Swim Series this weekend, confirmed that Marchand received hardly ANY rest going into the Pac-12 Championships… and he still broke the NCAA record in the 500 free.
This is contrary to what we heard from Jonny Kulow after the ASU men broke the NCAA record last night in the 200 medley relay, who stated ASU is FULLy shaved and tapered for this meet.
Kulow really playing 4D chess saying ASU is fully rested and tapered
Rested=10pm bedtime. Unrested=11:30pm
What time does he wake up to train when he’s unrested?? isn’t sleep important to being elite like him???
Cal fans are funny
Leon’s greatness has reduced Drew Kibler to only his teammate
Being a World Championship medalist isn’t really relevant to the information he is sharing here compared to being Leon’s teammate, so this made more sense.
What if ASU has a set method of “resting” that fits into their training cycle. Meaning it’s been happening the entire season. Someone like Kibler, who only knows the traditional layout of a taper cycle (where multiple changes happen throughout a 2-3 week process), it makes sense that he doesn’t think Leon is rested.
Bowman has been quoted saying something along the lines of only change one stimulus when you rest – intensity, yardage, etc. If that’s how he perceives it, it can easily be written to look the same thing they’ve been doing without it looking like “rest”
AND…he might not need much rest either!
No one’s ever rested.
Nor tapered
Well, if he rests he might get out of shape and go slower….
