LEN, the governing body of 52 national European Swimming Federations, released the start lists (click on this link) for the London 2016 LEN European Aquatics Championships today.
While most of the entrants are swimming in 3-4 events maximum, Hungary’s prolific Katinka Hosszu is entered in six: 100 free, 100 back, 200 back, 100 fly, 200 IM and 400 IM. Spain’s Mireia Belmonte has a relatively light schedule; she is planning to swim the 400 free, 1500 free, and 200 fly.
As we reported earlier, France’s Yannick Agnel is not entered in individual events; he will focus on the 800 free relay in London. Countryman Florent Manaudou will swim both the 50 and 100 freestyle events, though; after failing to make the French Olympic team in the 100 free he nevertheless said he would continue to train for the event so as to participate in France’s 4×100 free relay in Rio.
Hungary’s Laszlo Cseh has one of the heavier schedules on the men’s side, with the 50 fly, 100 fly, 200 fly, and 200 IM. Italy’s Gabriele Detti also has four events: 200 free, 400 free, 800 free, and 1500 free.
The 2016 European Championships will consist of swimming, diving, and synchronized swimming competitions. The swimming portion will take place from Monday, May 16 to Sunday, May 22. There are 42 swimming events scheduled, 34 individual events and eight relays.
There are heats, semi-finals and finals for every individual event apart from the 400m, 800m and 1500m freestyle events and the 400m individual medley, which don’t have a semi-final. In these events the eight fastest from the heats qualify for the final. In the other events, the 16 fastest swimmers from the heats progress to the semi-finals, then the first two finishers in each semi-final, plus the swimmers with the next four fastest times, progress to the final.
Nations are allowed to enter up to four athletes per individual event at the London 2016 LEN European Aquatics Championships but only two are allowed to progress out of the heats. In the case where three swimmers from the same nation finish in a qualification place (semi-final and final), the fastest two will progress and the third will be replaced by the next highest ranked swimmer. In the event of two or more swimmers posting the same time for 16th (semi-final) or eighth (final) place, a swim off will occur.

I am really surprised that so many top swimmers will compete, i think the Netherlands, Hungary, Spain, Italy and GB will compete with almost all of their best swimmers. France and especially Germany/Russia are missing many of their best swimmers.

What about Marco Koch winning the 100breastroke at German open? Why isn’t he in the medley relay?
And few days ago swim swam posted news about german roster for the European Championships and now seeing the entry list we can see there are also other swimmers that weren’t mentioned on that roster. Example: Christian von Lehm and Feldwehr. Do you know anything more about that?
Koch at the german open? What do you mean? The german open will take place in July, are you talking about the german nationals … ?

Fastest swimmer in german rankings at the end of the german open (beginning of July) will be nominated.
Schwingenschlögel is currently first in german rankings with his time of 1:00.15 in the prelims of the german nationals, although he only finished 3rd in the final (behind Koch (1:00.22) and Feldwehr (1:00.26)). There is a girl from the USA entered in the 100 free. This is preposterous . Americans can you not interfere in europe’s affairs. Next you will be at Eurovision .
I also noticed her, she also competes in 50 and 200 free, her name is Andrea Murez. I think she was born in the US and competed for them until 2014, she also won 2 medals with the american free relays at 2013 Universiade. In 2014 she started to compete for Israel and she qualified for 2016 olympics in womens 50/100 free so far.
I think this it not the only mistake on the entry list, in womens 400 free there is a girl named Ajna Kesely from Hungary, who was born in 2001 and has an entry time of 4:07, but i doubt that she has ever been that fast, its probably a short-course time, otherwise she would… Read more »

If I see any who have made the US team I will just put them on yours if they win a medal.
Vollmer, Schmitt and Jaeger (Jäger), Runge, Mann, Fink, Beisel, Dressel and Haas sound like german names, maybe you can ask them if they want to compete for Germany?

Yep there are lots of them aren’t there? Because they are descendants of hard working peoples. Maybe we should be able to provide a DNA chart & have a limit e.g. 45% from X region & hey presto -you are in . Or the latest trend is to just identify as something .
im not hungraian but yes that 4.07,9 is her long course time. i was actually there when she swam it and yes she definitely is extraordinary. i dont know about the fina rankings but as far as i remember it was a time trial.. maybe thats why although i wouldnt see the logic in there..
It is a nice time but not extra ordinary when you consider 1978 saw 3 14-15 year olds under that in lycra a 1936 pool in Berlin. 4 6.2 4.07 & 4.7.8
Its still extraordinary for a 14 yo girl. She wouldve finished 4th at 2015 junior world championships (for girls born in 1998 or later), only 0.17 behind the bronze medal. The fastest 14 yo in british history was Anne Bochmann in 2008 with a time of 4:12.51. The fastest 15 yo in british history was Holly Hibbott in 2015 with a time of 4:11.29. The fastest 16 yo in british history was Anne Bochmann in 2010 with a time of 4:10.99, she was also the fastest 17 yo in british history with a time of 4:08.30 in 2010.
