Ledecky Swims 3rd-Fastest 800 Free All-Time (Her 3rd-Fastest Time)

Katie Ledecky of Nation’s Capital just threw down the third-fastest 800 freestyle in history, which also happens to be the third-fastest swim of her career.

Below, see the five fastest women’s 800 freestyles in history:

  1. Katie Ledecky: 8:06.68 (January 2016)
  2. Katie Ledecky: 8:07.39 (August 2015)
  3. Katie Ledecky: 8:10.32 (July 2016)
  4. Katie Ledecky: 8:10.91 (July 2016)
  5. Katie Ledecky: 8:11.00 (June 2014)

Her swim tonight also took down the championship record that she set in prelims yesterday. That championship record broke the final major Janet Evans record in the books.

Tonight, taking the second slot on the Olympic team was Leah Smithwho held her spot as the sixth-fastest American female swimmer of all-time with her 8:20.18. See the six fastest American female swimmers below:

The duo are the first one-two team to repeat their placements in a second event, after finishing first and second in the 400 free earlier this week.

They are the first and third-fastest 800 freestylers in the world this year.
