le Clos Aiming For Both World Cup Victory and More World Records

South African National Team coach Graham Hill told SuperSport that Chad le Clos, the Olympic Champion in the 200 butterfly and current leader in the FINA World Cups series, has the goal to win the World Cup, but to do so Hill feels he will have to continue to set world records, “He wants the world cup and he is leading the series with six more events to go,” said Hill.

“But, if he wants to win it, he needs to break another world record.”

In Eindhoven le Clos set a new world record in the 200 butterfly posting a time of 1:49.04.

le Clos has accumulated 128 points in the first two World Cup competitions in Eindhoven and Berlin. His point total gives him a healthy lead over Russian Vladimir Morozov who has 87 points and Hungarian Daniel Gyurta who has collected 84 points.

Hill also told SuperSport that le Clos would not only continue to add the medley events to his schedule, but that he would also venture into competing in both the 100 and 200 freestyle.

Hill indicated that the South Africans were using the World Cup competitions as part of their preparation for the 2014 Commonwealth Games, where le Clos’ goal will be to return home with medals in six individual events.
