Lauren Pavel Named MVC Swimmer of the Week

MVC Swimmer of the Week:

Lauren Pavel, MSU, Junior

200 medley relay (2nd leg): 1:49.54 (6th out of 11)

100 breast: 1:05.98 (4th out of 12) (top time in the MVC)

200 IM: 2:13.83 (11th out of 12)

400 IM: 4:39.62 (9th out of 12) (4th best time in the MVC)

200 breast: 2:21.89 (3rd of 12) (top time in the MVC)

Swimming against both the Kansas Jayhawks and Denver Pioneers, Pavel was involved with two season-best times and placed an individual high third in the 200-yard breaststroke. She opened the dual by swimming as the second leg of the Bears’ top 200 medley relay squad, which placed sixth in a season-best time of 1:49.54. Pavel’s 2:21.89 finish in the 200 breast took over the top time in the Missouri Valley Conference and her 1:05.98 finish for a fourth-place showing in the 100 breast also is the top time in the MVC. Pavel also had solid swims in her remaining two races of the weekend. In her first attempt at the 400 IM of the season, the junior picked up the fourth-fastest time of the MVC by touching in at 4:39.62 for ninth place. She wrapped up her dual efforts by getting 11th in the 200 IM with a time of 2:13.83. Her previous best time this season is the third fastest among MVC swimmers.

MVC Diver of the Week:

Allie Bey, UNI, Senior

1st place in 3-meter Dive versus South Dakota State (Score of 250.65)

2nd place in 3-meter Dive versus South Dakota (Score of 242.55)

2nd place in 1-meter Dive versus South Dakota State (Score of 237.60)

3rd place in 1-meter Dive versus South Dakota (Score of 220.80)

Senior Allie Bey dived into her senior season for the Panthers, taking home top-3 finishes in meets versus South Dakota and South Dakota State. Bey dived into third place in the 1-meter dive versus South Dakota, with a score of 220.80. Bey jumped up to second place in the 3-meter dive a few events later, with a time of 242.55. Bey took home the first place spot in the 3-meter dive versus South Dakota State, with a score of 250.65. Bey also took the second place spot in the 1-meter dive, with a score of 237.60 in the same meet.

Thursday October 22: The University of Northern Iowa women’s swimming and diving team swam past the University of South Dakota Coyotes tonight, winning the meet 167-133. The Panthers won eight out of the 16 events they competed in. Rachel Siebenaller took home two first-place individual finishes in the 800 freestyle (13 seconds ahead of the runner up) and the 400 freestyle (five seconds ahead of second place). Siebenaller, Molly LembezederCrystal Florman and Autumn Roepsch made up the first-place 200 freestyle relay team with a time of 1:49.03.
In addition to the relay, Lembezeder won two individual events: the 50 freestyle (26.68) and the 100 freestyle. Veronica Herrmann won the 100 breaststroke and the 200 breaststroke, with times of 1:14.67 and 2:44.98 respectively. The team of Madison Rinaldi, Herrman, Taylor Ostrowski and Lembezeder found a first-place 400 medley finish with a time of 4:23.93.  Rinaldi took second place in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1 minute, 7.05 seconds, and in the 200 backstroke in 2:25.80. Rinaldi also took home the third-place spot in the 200 IM with a time of 2:31.17. Stephanie Jackson was the final Panther to take home her own first-place finish with a winning time of 2:25.45 in the 200 butterfly.

Friday October 23- Saturday October 24: The Missouri State Bears finished up action by dropping duals against Kansas (277-69) and Denver (279-67).MSU junior Lauren Pavel had the top finish Saturday for the Bears’ women’s squad after placing third in the 200 breast by touching the wall at 2:21.89. Several Bears swimmers had fourth-place showings which includes Josie Pearson (100 butterfly), Dora Kiss (500 free) and the MSU 200 free relay squad of Sydney ZupanAnna BumpHope Ernhart and Loretta Stelnicki.Zupan also placed a team-best fifth in the 200 back (2:05.41), while Briana McCullough and Emily Chesser had their top times of the season in the event .Ibby Simcox had a season-best time in the 100 fly (59.42) while three Bears – Pearson, Rebecca Amparano and Pavel – placed in the top 10 in their first 400 IM appearances of the year.

Saturday October 24:  The University of Northern Iowa women’s swimming and diving team squeezed past the Jackrabbits to win Saturday’s meet 151-149, taking first place in eight events. Molly Lembezeder continued to reach for her records in the 50 Freestyle and the 100 Freestyle. Lembezeder swam a 24.06 in the 50 Freestyle, which got her tied for fifth place on UNI’s All-Time record list. Lembezeder also hopped to third place in the record books in the 100 Freestyle, where she was just a second shy of her record, with a time of 52.31. Stephanie Jackson took home a first place finish in the 1000 Freestyle, with a time of 10:52.71 and swam into third place in the 200 Butterfly, with a time of 2:12.25. Rachel Siebenaller also continued to swim towards the record boards, taking home first place finishes in the 200 Freestyle and the 500 Freestyle. Aftin Phyfe, a junior, took home first place in the 200 Backstroke, with a time of 2:09.21. Phyfe was also part of a relay that took first place in the 400 Freestyle relay. Competing alongside Phyfe was Lembezeder, Crystal Florman and Siebenaller. The group swam a time of 3:32.13, moving into the fourth place spot on the UNI All-Time list. Senior Allie Bey took home the first place spot in the 3-meter dive, with a score of 250.65. Bey also took the second place spot in the 1-meter dive, with a score of 237.60.
