Larkin Looking To Samba His Way To Gold In Rio (Video)

Riding his wave of success into the 2016 Olympic Games, Australian backstroker Mitch Larkin looks forward to making even more improvements en route to a potential podium placement in Rio.

Speaking to the media last month after the Australian Olympic Trials, Larkin recounts how 2015 was a ‘fantastic’ year for the 22-year old, a year which included earning two individual World Championship titles, as well as a new World Record (SCM).

Not resting on his laurels, however, Larkin is already setting his sights on the tropical temperatures and thrilling competition that await in Brazil.

“I’ve heard that every Olympics is different,” says Larkin whose 2016 Olympic team represents his 2nd berth. “I’m not going to compare this experience to London, as no 2 Olympics are the same.”

“Making my 2nd Olympic team is a massive relief”, said the backstroking ace. And, when looking at the entire Aussie team as a whole, he comments that “we’re shaping up to be a great team. There’s a good balance of experience and energy.”

Larkin, who is dating his wickedly-fast backstroking counterpart on the Aussie women’s side, Emily Seebohm, also playfully comments on how he’s looking forward to learning how to dance and pick up on the Brazilian excitement, energy and vibrancy while taking part in the world’s biggest sporting competition.
