The North Carolina State Wolfpack and the Villanova Wildcats squared off in Raleigh on Friday night, and the result was not close. Though some exhibitions at the end of the meet resulted in a few ‘on paper’ wins for the Wildcats, NC State swimmers touched the wall 1st in every one of the meet’s 32 events (metaphorically, as the Wolfpack swept 4 diving events as well).
The final scores went 166-101 in the men’s meet and 175-104 in the women’s meet.
There was little in the way of truly fast results at this meet, as would be expected this time of year. Among the NC State winners were Jonathan Boffa, who took the 50 free in 20.61, and a 1-2 in the men’s 100 fly from Christian McCurdy and Soeren Dahl in 49.12 and 49.13.
On the women’s side North Carolina State’s Natalie Labonge was impressive in the 100 fly, touching in 55.77. That’s a season-best time for the freshman, after going a lifetime best of 1:51.89 to win the 200 free earlier in the meet.
Villanova’s best swim of the meet was the runner-up placing in that 200 free from Katrin Heider in 1:52.22.
