Kate McCarville won another event to kick off day 3 of the Region VIII meet, winning the women’s 400 free.
The University of Tennessee commit cruised to an easy win in the race, winning by nearly five full seconds in a time of 4:20.89. That time is only just off of her lifetime best, a 4:19.46 from last January. She finished just ahead of Paige Mitchell, who swims at San Diego State University. Mitchell touched in 4:25.64, while her teammate at CSP Tideriders and University of Pennsylvania commit Anna Moehn took third in 4:27.47.
That victory addss to earlier meet wins by McCarville in both the 200 free (2:03.07) and 100 fly (1:00.49).
Another repeat event winner, Alec Enyeart claimed the 400 free on the men’s side. Like McCarville, Enyeart easily cruised to the win, touching in 3:59.74. That was well ahead of runner-up Christopher Callan’s time of 4:03.57 that earned him second. Callan is a rising sophomore at Southern Methodist where, as a freshman, he took 3rd in the 1650 at the AAC Conference Championships.
Enyeart has been dominant at this meet in the distance races, winning the 800 free (8:11.86) and 400 IM (4:31.84). Unlike those two races, however, his 400 free wasn’t a best time.
The women’s 100 breast featured a tight race for first, with Aubree Brouwer edging out Bradi Jones for gold. Brouwer finished in 1:10.01, with Jones was just behind her in 1:10.26.
In the men’s race, the podium was swept by a trio of college and former college swimmers. Asa Stewart of the Aquatic Club of Enid, Oklahoma finished with the fastest time of the three, touching in 1:04.78. That swim was good for a new lifetime best in the event and was his first time dipping below 1:05. Touching behind Stewart was 27-year old Uldis Tazans, a former swimmer for Missouri State University, in 1:05.08, and University of Indianapolis swimmer Brayden Cole in 1:05.82.
Kylee Sullivan, a 17-year old from Parkway Swim Club, edged out Empire Swim Club’s Anne Deedy to claim the win in the 200 fly. A two event champion at the Missouri high school state championship meet earlier this year, Sullivan dropped a little over a second from her lifetime best, finishing in 2:22.81. Deedy was only .07 behind her to claim silver in 2:22.88.
The men’s 200 fly was won by 2022 Ohio State University commit Caleb Ellis, who currently trains with the Empire KC Swim Club. Ellis was half of second faster than his previous best in the race, touching in 2:05.90 to edge out Youssef Bahgat (2:05.94).
