Kyle Chalmers Discusses Move to St. Andrews with Ash Delaney, AUS Open, and Ankle Surgery

Olympic and world champion Kyle Chalmers just had one of the best in-season meets of his career last month at the Australian Open, going lifetime bests in the 50 free (21.9) and 50 fly (23.1) as well as a 47.6 in the 100 free. This is coming on the heels of moving clubs to train with Ash Delaney at St. Andrews on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland.

“10-12 guys going under 49” didn’t age well. I was shocked at how slow they all went, other than Kyle. Only 1 guy beat the Australia Olympic cut for the 100 free!

Ramsay went 4:11.49 for a 4 second PB in the 400 free having already dropped 5 seconds this season. Bodes well for her IMs.

Deciding to not play AFL because it’s an Olympic year and then agreeing to do so “just for 5 minutes” only to snap 3 ligaments after 3 minutes of play, and then worsen the injury by training on it for a further two weeks, is the most Chalmers thing ever. It’s almost as though he doesn’t know how to compete without having surgery every other year

I’m glad that he’s skipping the 4×200. At best, Australia is fighting with Korea and China for bronze behind GB and USA. And as he said, he only lost in Tokyo by 0.06s so who knows how much the relay took out of him

You can twist your ankle crossing the street.

I once put my back out scooping ice cream out of a tub lmao

Weeks of physio didn’t fix it, multiple acupuncture didn’t fix it and then – of all things – a chiropractor kind of picked me up from behind in a bear hug and cured me instantly lol

We humans and our bodies are weird.

I’ve had the “bear hug” manipulation done before. Great relief for upper back pain.

King Kyle is always such a good interview. Sounds like his training has been going swimmingly so I can’t wait to see what he’s been cooking up.
