In a pool full of primarily Russians, it was a Dutch woman who set the water afire, as World Champion Ranomi Kromowidjojo threw down another eye-popping performance in the women’s 50 scm freestyle. After winning the women’s splash n’ dash event in at the FINA Short Course World Championships last weekend in a time of 23.60, the 26-year-old touched tonight just .08 slower for the win. Her outing of 23.68 in St. Petersburg would have won the silver last weekend in Windsor, only behind herself.

2016 Olympic medalist Evgeny Rylov also did what medalists do by clinching the victory in the men’s 100m backstroke race. His time of 50.16 was swift enough to hold off a charging Andrei Shabasov, the silver medalist in this event last weekend. Shabasov settled for silver yet again this time, touching in 51.05.

Another silver medalist from Windosr, Aleksandr Krasnykh upgraded to gold this time in the men’s 400m freestyle, representing the only swimmer of the finals field to notch a sub-3:40 second outing. 3:39.80 is what it took Krasnykh to win tonight, a little over 4 seconds off his podium placing time of 3:35.30 last week.

It was a 3-man race in the men’s 200m breaststroke, with teen Anton Chupkov pacing the field with his gold medal-winning result of 2:04.30. That would up out-touching national record holder Kirill Prigoda, who notched 2:04.62 for silver, while Mikhail Dorinov continued the charge with a bronze time of 2:04.68. The trio of Russians would have earned 6th, 7th and 8th at the World Championships in Windsor with those times, just for perspective.
