32-year-old Kevin Swander blasted a 1:02.18 in the 100 breast for an Olympic Trials cut after 2000 Olympian Ed Moses got under the cut on Friday.
Yesterday, after only swimming two practices since 2012, gold medalist Ed Moses dipped under the Olympic Trials cut in the 100 breast with a 1:03.35 at the Speedo Grand Challenge. This will be his fourth Olympic Trials– Moses turns 36 in just over a week on June 7th.
Swander was an elite breaststroker who competed for Indiana University, collecting thirteen All-American awards. He won multiple Big Ten individual titles, and also finished as high as 2nd in the 100 breast at the 2006 NCAA Championships. He was hired as an assistant coach at the University of South Carolina in the fall of 2012, and just finished up his 4th season with Gamecocks’ coaching staff.
A finalist at the 2004 and 2008 Olympic Trials in the 100 breast, Swander just missed out on a third consecutive Olympic Trials finals appearance with a 9th place finish during semifinals in 2012. After his 1:00.98 in 2012, though, he had not swum a single official race, according to USA Swimming’s database. Until today.
At Carolina Aquatics’ May Breakout Long Course meet this weekend, held at the University of South Carolina, Swander topped the 100 breast field (which included University of South Carolina 2016 All-American Nils Wich-Glasen) with a 1:02.18. That time easily clears the OT cut of 1:03.69, and is over a second ahead of Moses’ time from yesterday.

Kitajima has swum 59.62 at 33 early April at Japanese trials.
The thing is Kosuke has never taken a 4 year break and he has also made a ton of money through swimming. We’re talking about comeback swims after retirement here. Kitajima is probably the best breaststroker in history, so the comparison is kind of weak.
Someone has never heard of Adam Peaty
He is referring to being the best breaststroker over the 100 and 200 for the longest period of time. Peaty is only the best 50 & 100 breaststroker as of now.
