Canyons Aquatic Club’s Amanda Kendall closed out the 2017 American Short Course Championships on a winning note, sweeping the sprint freestyles. Kendall jumped out to the early lead with a blazing 22.83 at the halfway point, but Swim Atlanta’s Amanda Weir made her move on the back half to try and run Kendall down. Weir had the faster back half, but Kendall had built too large of a lead to be caught, as she won in 48.00 to Weir’s 48.22.
The 200 back was one of the best events of the night on the men’s and women’s sides. Missouri’s Nick Alexander won the men’s version of the event, turning in a quick 1:42.88. That was just 2 tenths shy of his personal best 1:42.64 from the SEC Championships. On the women’s side, U.S. National Teamer Eva Merrell dominated the race by 2.5 seconds to win the title in 1:53.76.
Dakota Luther also put up a highlight swim on the final night. Luther hit the wall in 1:55.07, knocking almost 2 tenths off her previous lifetime best 1:55.25 from the 2016 U.S. Winter Junior Championships in December.

The meet was a total disaster. Eddie Reese didnt attend his own meet so you know it was bad.
The pool was not anything close to the UT facility. Poor ventilation, moving blocks, lane lines were near underwater, massive turbulence, murky water,and the results from most all teams showed it. Feel sorry for the athletes that were in the meet.
It’s sad this meet had to be moved from Austin. From what some swimmers said, it was like swimming at a summer league meet. It’s unfortunate those attempting for NCAA cuts had to endure this. The meet should have been in the outdoor pool since it had to move to San Antonio…
It was very unfortunate that the meet had to be moved and I’m sure it effected everyone’s results. Swimming in the outdoor pool was not an option as the weather was awful.
Weather was fine the first two days. It was even better inside A&M’s swim complex. As I heard from multiple sources at the meet, UT knew Tuesday am that the EPA was closing their pool for a long-standing leak that they had previously chosen not be fix for quite some time. They knew in time to get their athletes who were on the bubble to qualify up to Ohio, but did not afford that opportunity to any others. Pretty classless if you ask me. And as Lonnie below states, it is pretty bad when Eddie Reese won’t show up to his own meet.
