At the second night of finals at the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Omaha, Nebraska, Louisville’s Kelsi Worrell took the win ahead of Cal’s Dana Vollmer tonight in the women’s 100 fly to become the 5th-fastest female 100 butterflier in history.
Worrell’s 56.48 puts her behind only Sweden’s Sarah Sjostrom, Vollmer herself, China’s Zige Liu, and Australia’s Jessicah Schipper in the world all-time standings:
- Sarah Sjostrom, Sweden: 55.64 (2015)
- Dana Vollmer, USA: 55.98 (2012)
- Zige Liu, China: 56.07 (2009)
- Jessicah Schipper, Australia: 56.23 (2009)
- Kelsi Worrell, USA: 56.48
Her swim tonight was the second-fastest time in the world this year.

This will be Worrell’s first Olympic team.
Defending Olympic champion Vollmer (most likely) will be the other Olympian in this event, after scoring second with 57.21.
The duo will have serious Olympic medaling potential when they take on Rio, as Vollmer is currently ranked sixth in the world with a 56.90 from semifinals.
Kelsi in BEAST MODE. I thought Dana had some speed too. It will be interesting in Rio.
