Keanna Macinnes Posts 2:08.05 Scottish Record At 2023 British Swimming Championships

2023 BRITISH SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS

In the women’s 200 butterfly final at the 2023 British Swimming, Keanna Macinnes hit a new best time and Scottish record of 2:08.05. Her time took out the more than a decade-old mark by Hannah Miley from the 2009 British Swimming Championships of 2:08.24.

During her former best time, Macinnes actually opened with a quicker 100 split than Miley’s record, hitting a 1:01.90. She came home slower, however, and missed the record by 0.62 seconds. Her record-breaking swim at the 2023 Trials started off a bit slower than her old PB but she managed to come back roughly a second quicker, notching a 2:08.05.

Macinnes placed third in the final behind Laura Stephens who hit a 2:06.62 for the gold medal and Emily Large who took silver with a 2:07.33. Stephens swam under the World Championships qualifying standard of 2:06.81, making her the only woman in the event to qualify to race in Fukuoka this summer.

Macinnes raced this event for Scotland at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, finishing in 7th place overall with a 2:10.79 after posting a 2:11.15 in the heats. Macinnes has yet to represent Great Britain at a World Championships but still has a shot at qualifying in her second event, the 100 butterfly, on day six of this meet.

She is entered with a 58.34 as the top seed, which is less than two seconds off the World Championships qualifying standard of 56.41 and even closer to the consideration cut of 56.81.
