Kean University Announces Incoming Class for Fall 2023

“I am so excited for the incoming class to join us at Kean in the fall. We are coming off our program’s first ever NJAC Championship, and we head into this season with our fastest and most complete roster to date. Each of these athletes will have a profound impact in our goal of repeating as conference champs and working towards becoming one of the top Division 3 programs in the country.” – Head Coach Chris Swenson

Sydney Stemley – Longwood, FL (Lake Mary HS/Greater Orlando Aquatic Team)
Top Times: 50 free – 24.67, 100 free – 52.79, 200 free – 1:55.10, 100 fly – 58.65, 200 fly – 2:08.60, 100 back – 59.74

Why Kean: “I chose to attend Kean because I really enjoyed the closeness of the community within the university and their passion for constantly improving the campus for all students, especially student athletes.”

Swenson on Stemley: “Sydney will arrive on campus as one of the fastest and most versatile sprinters in the NJAC. She has times under school records in multiple events and she will make an immediate impact at both the conference and NCAA level!”

Alisa Dovbnya – Somerset, NJ (Thomas Edison Energy Smart Charter School/Scarlet Aquatic Club)
Top Times: 200 free – 2:02.70, 500 free – 5:09.27, 1000 free – 10:22.91, 1650 free – 17:39.96

Why Kean: “I chose Kean because of the close proximity to home and the great academic opportunities I will have there. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for my talents in both education and swimming.”

Swenson on Dovbnya: “Alisa is going to immediately be one of the top distance swimmers in the conference, coming in with times under school records in the 500, 1000 and 1650 freestyle events. We are excited to watch her help transform our distance group to an elite level over the next four years!”

Diana Quiroz – Palmares, Costa Rica
Top Times: 50 free – 25.26, 100 free – 56.89, 50 back – 28.18, 50 fly – 27.08

Why Kean: “I chose Kean because of amazing opportunities in both academics and athletics. I also felt like an instant connection with Coach Swenson and his passion for making the program better. Kean feels like the best place for me where I can grow to become a better person and swimmer. I cannot wait for the next 4 years to come!

Swenson on Quiroz: “Diana is going to add a ton of depth to our freestyle, backstroke and butterfly groups. Her speed and versatility will be a huge asset to our program and we’re excited to watch her develop those skills during her career at Kean!”

Abbie Masters – Chesterfield, NJ (Northern Burlington HS/Peddie Aquatics)
Top Times: 500 free – 5:36.79, 1000 free – 11:26.47, 1650 free – 19:14.95, 400 IM – 5:00.65

Why Kean: “I chose Kean University for the positive and outgoing atmosphere from the team and coaches. I am very excited to start my freshman season, Roll Cougars!”

Swenson on Masters: “Abbie is going to be an integral part of our distance free and IM groups for the next 4 years. Her work ethic and passion for the sport of swimming will serve her well and we are so excited to have her on campus this fall!”
