Kaylee Witkiewicz Verbally Commits To Ohio State Buckeyes

Kaylee Witkiewicz, Ohio local and senior at Thomas Worthington High School, verbally committed to swim for Ohio State University for the 2015-2016 season.

Witkiewicz is a sprinter, primarily specializing in fly/back/free out of Ohio State Swim Club, under Head Coach Kyle Goodrich. “Kaylee has historically been stronger in (short course) due to her great underwaters, but that changed this past summer,” said Coach Goodrich. She had  her best summer season thus far, finishing fourth with a 1:03.87 in the A Final of the 100 Back at the Summer Section 3 Speedo Championships, held at Miami University. She also led-off with a sizzling 29.78 split in the 200 Medley Relay, helping her team place sixth. Her split was the fastest 50 Back out of all relays in that event.

She Is Getting Faster

Witkiewicz has shown the most improvement in her 100 Fly and impressive consistency in the rest of her events over the past three seasons. Her progression has a positive trend, going from a 24.29 to 23.56 (Freshman to Junior) in the 50 Free, 53.10 to 52.07 (Freshman to Sophomore) in the 100 Free, 56.53 to 56.08 (Freshman to Sophomore) in the 100 Back, and 59.63 to 56.85 (Freshman to Junior) in the 100 Fly. Her junior season at Thomas Worthington showed that she is indeed a valuable relay swimmer. At the 2014 Div. 1 Ohio High School State Championships, KayLee competed in three relays and one individual event. She finished third in the 50 free and helped her 200 Medley Relay finish second.

The Buckeye Women are coming off of a 41st place finish at the 2014 NCAA Div. 1 Championships and a fourth-place finish at the 2014 Big Ten Championships. Witkiewicz may have the opportunity to make an impact in the 200 and 400 Medley Relays, most likely as a lead-off for the Lady Buckeyes, but she will have to prove herself against a young and talented fly/back group at Ohio State. Her freestyle speed may also have an impact on Buckeye relays. The underwater skills she possesses will certainly come in handy once she joins the Buckeyes, but we still have one more year to see what Witkiewicz can do in her last high school season.
