Kayla Purcell Gives Verbal Nod to Virginia Tech

For more commitment articles, be sure to check out SwimSwam’s College Recruiting channel.

Millington, New Jersey native Kayla Purcell has given a verbal commitment to Virginia Tech for the class of 2016. “I chose Virginia Tech because of the supportive atmosphere from both the coaches and the swimmers.  Everyone was so welcoming and I instantly felt at home. The facilities and academics are very impressive and I could not be happier to be a HOKIE!!”

Purcell swims for Watchung Hills Regional High School and the Somerset Hills YMCA. A multiple-time YMCA Nationals finalist, Purcell’s best short-course times include:

  • 50 free – 23.80
  • 100 free – 51.81r
  • 100 back – 57.00
  • 200 back – 2:04.94
  • 100 fly – 56.85

Purcell is currently just out of scoring range for the H2Okies at ACC Championships. It took 23.0 to make the “C” final in the 50 free in 2015, 50.2 in the 100 free, 55.1 in the 100 back, and 54.5 in the 100 fly. But Purcell will join Virginia Tech with a very strong group of fellow commits (Caroline DeJager, Chloe Hicks, Eleanor Matheson, Jenna Beattie, and Margarita Ryan) and can be expected to be a strong contributor to the H2Okies’ results.
