KATY Freestyler Raegen Follis to Swim for Illinois State in 2020-21

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Raegen Follis from Katy, Texas has committed to Illinois State University for 2020-21. She will join Cassidy Carey, Dee Dee Walker, Izzy Harder, Maili Simons, Megan Mulligan, Mikayla Jasek, Olivia Gonder, and Paige Gidley in the Redbirds’ class of 2024.

“I am so excited to announce my commitment to further my academic and athletic career at Illinois State University. Picking a school was definitely a hard and long process but I am so thankful and stress free now that I know I am going to a great school with great people. I am so thankful for friends and family my coaches and teammates for helping me get to this point in my life. Go Redbirds!!”

Follis is a senior at Seven Lakes High School. She swam the 200/500 free in high school, finishing the 2019-20 season with a 5th and an 8th in the respective events at the Texas UIL 6A Region 5 Championships. In club swimming, where she represents Katy Aquatic Team For Youth, Follis unleashed a trio of best times (100 free, 1000 free, 100 fly) at the Gulf Swimming LSC Short Course Championships. There, she placed 13th in the 50 free, 6th in the 100 free, 8th in the 200 free, 4th in the 500 free, 4th in the 1000 free, and 11th in the 200 IM. Since the beginning of senior year, Follis has improved her PBs in the 100/200/500/1000 free, 100 fly, and 200 IM.

Top SCY times:

  • 100 free – 53.59
  • 200 free – 1:52.68
  • 500 free – 5:04.38
  • 1000 free – 10:34.99
  • 1650 free – 18:03.55
  • 200 IM – 2:14.04
  • 400 IM – 4:37.60

The Redbirds finished 4th of 8 teams at the 2020 Missouri Valley Conference Championships. Follis would have made top-24 in the 500 free (along with Julia Oostman, Morgan Rosser, and Makenna Licking; Lauren Naeger just missed the C final) and the 1650 free (with Rossner, 9th, and Oostman, 18th). Follis will have the opportunity to train with all four of them next year.
