WITH A NEW WORLD RECORD OF 3:58.86, IT IS KATIE LEDECKY!!! Ledecky attacked the front half as she normally does, going out under WR pace. She stayed pace under the whole way, but the crowd was anxiously watching her splits as she approached the 300 and 350 mark. Pellegrini anchored her final 100 of her world record swim in 2009 with a 59.2 final 100 split. Ledecky had to close strong to break the record. The crowd went nuts when she touched the wall under 3:59. That time will stand as the new World, Junior World, American, US Open, National Meet, and 17-18 NAG Record.

Big congratulations to MR Gemmell for a great coaching & training for Ledecky !
I have just seen the race : 1.57 at the 200 ??? that’s mind blowing time …. that many girls would love to swim just for the 200 !!! Great swim , Evans records have been rejoined by Ledecky 2012-2014 amazing 2 years performances . She broke 2 times the 800 & 1500 records , has now 3 of the 4 fastest times on 400 . That’s a lot at only 17 years old .
I must admit that, although I believed she could do this, I thought we would have to wait until a championship meet when the 400 Free was early in the schedule (2015 Worlds?). I have never seen Katie kick like she did that final 50, wow! I feel fortunate to be able to watch the career of this incredibly talented woman!
Is the 200 Free WR next?
I wouldn’t be surprised if she was swimming the best 200 free in the 2,3 years to come and become the best 200 freestyler as well . Only the sky is her limit now ……….
KL will likely be #1 in the 200 free within a year or two, and have the WR in that event in a matter of time. She is the gold medal favorite in Rio, IMO.
Funny to rewatch 3 years later her 400 free win at the 2011 US junior nationals in Palo Alto.

The specialists can compare. 🙂
And if you can, look at the 2012 Olympic Trials 400 meter race. After she placed third, she was FURIOUS. She would barely acknowledge anyone else. She probably knew she should have made the Olympic team in that race and was extremely disappointed in her own performance. An amazing athlete who, like Phelps, uses a loss to fuel her hatred for losing. Wow. Amazing.

I still have goosebumps 9 hours after the race! 😆
Amazing accomplishment! One of the greatest world records of all-time!
Congrats Katie! You are a legend!
