Although it is still early on in the 2015 calendar year, Katie Ledecky is off to a strong start. Last night at the 2015 Independent School League Championships in Bethseda, MD, Ledecky posted the second fastest time in the country for the calendar year, winning the 500 freestyle with her time of 4:45.99. Although it was the second fastest time in the year, she was still not under the meet record. The only other swimmer in the country that has been faster so far this year is Leah Smith. Smith swims for the University of Virginia and posted a time of 4:45.80 against Virginia Tech. on Jan. 16th.
Although Ledecky’s 500 freestyle was not a meet record, her 200 freestyle did break the meet record. She won that event with her time of 1:47.69. Two other swimmers broke meet records at yesterday’s ISL Championships. Jasmine Hellmer from Flint Hill posted a 59.08 to win the 100 backstroke and Caroline McTaggart from Holton won the 100 butterfly with her time of 54.29.
Ledecky’s next high school will be the WMPSSDL Championships at the end of the month. The Metro DC Swimming Championships on Feb. 6th and 7th will be her last meet of her high school career. Last year she broke the American record during prelims of the Metro DC Championships.
Only with Katie Ledecky could you candidly get such a nice shot with *almost* no one else in it like the article picture. And while yes there are two other swimmers, if you look closely you’ll see they’re swimming in the OPPOSITE direction.
Who cares about the calendar year? 🙂
Katie Ledecky has already swum 4.29.54 at US short course nationals last December.
Although not calendar year but winter season Katie went 4:30.92 at Univ of Delaware in a closed meet with a few clubs in November.
