Katie Ledecky, who earlier at this meet dropped the 4th fastest 200 yard freestyle ever, smoothly touched out at 4:30.42 to take the top seed in the 500 free going into finals. She’s the top seed by nearly 20 seconds, with the 2nd fastest morning performance coming from NCAP teammate Kaitlin Pawlowicz (4:48.85).
Cassidy Bayer put forth a couple of strong performances, touching 3rd in the 50 free (23.20) behind teammate Morgan Hill (22.98) and Casey Fanz (23.08). Prior to that swim, however, she blew away the field in the 200 fly with a 1:56.41.
In the girls’ 13-14 age group, Kate Douglass was the clear standout. She earned top seeds in two events, both the 50 free (23.03) over NCAP’s Katie Mack (23.29) and then the 200 breast with a commanding 2:13.51.
On the boy’s side, 15-year-old Reece Whitley churned out a 1:56.56 200 breaststroke, with Machine Aquatics’ Casey Storch touching behind him at 1:59.81.
James Murphy put down a pair of strong performances, touching 2nd in the 200 fly (1:47.09) behind NOVA’s David Dixon (1:46.76), and then grabbing the top seed in the 500 free for tonight’s finals (4:22.62). Notably, Ledecky would’ve qualified for the men’s open 500 free A final with her morning time.
Finals start this evening, at 5:45 PM Eastern.
