Kathleen Dawson of Scotland put together a strong morning swim in the women’s 100 back, posting a time of 57.17 to break her own national record and qualify 6th overall for tonight’s semi-final. She broke her previous record of 57.66 set at the BUCS Short Course Swimming Championships in November.
Dawson and her British teammate Georgia Davies sit in prime position to qualify for the final tomorrow night, as Davies qualified 5th in 56.99 and Dawson just behind in 7th. The British record currently sits at 56.35, set by Elizabeth Simmonds in 2015.
Dawson is slated to swim the 200 back later in the week, another event in which she broke the Scottish record last month, clocking 2:06.05.
