Kate Moore to Join Sister Hannah and Rest of NC State Wolfpack in 2017

Kate Moore, who will soon begin her senior year with Green Hope High School in Cary, NC, has committed to the NC State Wolfpack with their class of 2021.

Kate, sister of NC State‘s Hannah Moore (who broke three school records in her first season with the Wolfpack after spending her freshman year at Michigan), announced the commitment via Twitter.

Moore specializes in backstroke and IM, and has decent freestyle to complement that. She also competed in the U.S. Olympic Trials this summer in the 200 back, after swimming a qualifying time of 2:16.57 at the Speedo East Jr Nationals last December.

Moore’s Top Times (SCY)

  • 50 back – 25.94
  • 100 back – 53.99
  • 200 back – 1:57.07
  • 200 IM – 2:02.63
  • 400 IM – 4:16.28
  • 100 free – 51.47

At the 2016 North Carolina 4A HS Champs, swimming for Green Hope, Moore led off the 2nd place medley relay in 25.94, then grabbed 4th in the 200 IM. She placed 2nd overall in the 100 back, cracking 54 seconds with a 53.99 that was only tenths off of the overall NC high school state record. Moore also led off the 400 free relay in 51.47, which was a huge new personal best.

In addition to her 100 free, where Moore went from 54.05 in 2014 to a 53.23 a week before the 2016 4A Champs in February to a 51.47 at those Champs, she’s seen huge improvements in her backstrokes over the last season or so. In the 100, she was 55.46 at the 2015 4A Champs, and in the 200, she was 1:58.79 in 2015. She’s been 53.99 and 1:57.07, respectively, since then.

At the 2016 ACC Championships, Moore would have placed in the B final in the 400 IM and the 100 back, while she would’ve been on the B/C final bubble in the 200 back. She also would’ve been close to scoring in the 200 IM C final. She has clear individual potential for the Wolfpack, and with her 100 free improvements in the last year or so, she could find herself getting close to or even surpassing the 50-second barrier and making her way onto some relays in the future.

Moore is the first female commitment to the Wolfpack for 2017.
