Junior Nationals Finalist Ange Harris Commits to Arizona State (2021)

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Three Village Swim Club’s Ange Harris has announced her verbal commitment to join Arizona State University’s team in the fall of 2021. Harris attends Miller Place High School. She was named a member of USA Swimming’s 2019 Scholastic All-America team.

Last summer Harris competed at the Junior National Championships where she was a finalist in the 200 breast. She finished 14th in the event, swimming a 2:35.29 in prelims. This time isn’t far off of the 2:33.29 that it takes to qualify for Olympic Trials.

Harris is just as strong in short course racing. She was a two-event finalist at the NYSPHSAA Girl’s Federation Championships, the championship meet for public high schools in New York. She finished 4th in the 200 IM (2:03.76) and 6th in the 100 breast (1:04.00).

Top SCY Times

  • 100 breast – 1:02.43
  • 200 breast – 2:15.61
  • 200 IM – 2:03.33
  • 400 IM – 4:20.70

The Sun Devils finished 5th at the 2020 Pac-12 Championships. Depth in the breaststroke was an area of weakness for ASU as they only had one A-finalist in both of the breaststroke events, senior Silja Kansakoski. While she finished 2nd in the 100, ASU was still outscored by 5 out of the 7 other teams in that event.

ASU will be adding Canadian Pilar McCann this fall. McCann has already been a 1:10.96/2:37.00 in the long course breaststroke events.

Harris’ best times would have placed her right on the edge of the B and C-finals, making her a threat to score points immediately after arriving on campus in 2021. Harris would have also been on the edge of qualifying for the C-final in the 200 and 400 IM.

Bob Bowman, Arizona State’s head coach, has been very successful coaching IM swimmers in the past. He coached Michael Phelps to six Olympic medals in the IM events, all of which were gold.
