Julia Sebastian Breaks South American Record in 200 Breast for 3rd Time in 2020

2020 INTERNATIONAL SWIMMING LEAGUE – MATCH #10

Argentinian breaststroker Julia Sebastian has broken her own South American Record in the 200 breaststroke for at least the 3rd time this season.

Swimming in Match #10, the later of the double header in Budapest this week, Sebastian placed 4th for the LA Current. Her time of 2:20.89 cleared her old record of 2:21.20 that was set 2 weeks ago in Match #3. That, in turn, broke the prior record of 2:21.62 done in Match #1.

The record coming into the season was a 2:21.31 done in 2018 at the Brazilian Jose Finkel Trophy also by Sebastian.

While a timing error means that we don’t know the splits of her record coming into the season, improvements throughout the season has shown that she’s been dropping the final 50 of her race, though she’s seen improvements across-the-board in her swims.

Record #1 Record #2 Record #3

200m 37.17 36.43 36.43
Total Time 2:21.62 2:21.20 2:20.89

Sebastian holds South American Records in the 100 breast (1:06.98) and 200 breast (2:24.92) in long course, plus this 200 breaststroke in short course meters. Brazil’s Jhennifer Conceicao holds the other 3 South American records in the women’s breaststroke events.

Sebastian and Conceicao (Toronto Titans) account for 2 of the 4 South American women competing in the ISL this season. Etienne Medeiros and Larissa Oliveira from Brazil are both members of the Aqua Centurions.
