Job Description
As the Head Coach, you will oversee the organizational structure, day-to-day operations, financial aspects, and event management of our swim team. You will play a critical role in ensuring compliance with USA Swimming regulations, efficient online registration processes, and seamless coordination of team events and meets.
Key Responsibilities
Coaching Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary coach for the Senior program(s)
- Oversee and support program implementation by staff including in-water and dryland training
Organizational Structure & Planning:

Qualifications

Requirements:

About Old Dominion Aquatic Club:
ODAC is renowned for its rich history and commitment to excellence. With the longest-tenured Head Coach in the area (30 years), and between 250 – 350 swimmers annually, ODAC consistently ranks in the top 250 club teams nationally and has received multiple Bronze or Silver medal club designations through USA Swimming’s Club Excellence Program. Recently, an 18 & Under swimmer from ODAC reached the semi-finals at the Olympic Trials in the 200 Breast, achieving top 50 world rankings in the 200 Breast and 100 Breast, while also becoming the 11th and 4th fastest 17-18-year-old in history in the 200 and 100 Breast events.
Qualifications and Experience:
• Experience in swim lesson instruction or year-round coaching is beneficial but not required.
• An eagerness to learn, grow, and thrive in a team-oriented setting is essential.
• Relevant certifications are advantageous but not mandatory. If not in possession of required certifications upon hire, candidates should plan to achieve them within 30 days of hire.
Responsibilities:
• Lead age group practice groups for ODAC’s 12 & Under swimmers.
• Focus on the development and refinement of strokes and specific skill sets.
• Prepare swimmers for advancement to the senior level within ODAC.
Schedule:
• Practice groups are offered 3-6 days a week. Based on strengths of candidates, the program has vacancies in our 8&under, 9-10, and 11-12 practice groups.
• 8 & Under groups: 3 or 5 weeknights a week for 45 minutes.
• 9-10-year-olds: 6 days a week for 1 hour to 1.5 hours.
• 11-12/Senior 3 groups: 6 days a week for 1 to 1.5 hours each night.

Compensation:
• Hourly pay: $20-$25.

The Harlem YMCA is seeking Swim Instructors who will be responsible for maintaining safe conditions at the branch and promote a safe and positive atmosphere in accordance with YMCA of Greater New York Aquatics policies and procedures. The Swim Instructor will also provide swim instruction for different ages and ability levels and motivate their participants.
Key Responsibilities:
- Must be Instructor Ready: uniform, lesson plans, maintain records (attendance, track progress and complete end of session report).
- Instruct participants according to YMCA Aquatics program standards: using lesson guides, guided discovery teaching, effective class organization and positive relationship with participants.
- Ensure instructional equipment remains in good condition; have all equipment ready prior to classes and put away after
- Report repair needs to supervisor whenever necessary.
- Set-up, breakdown and store equipment for each class.
- Attend mandatory in-service training on a monthly basis.
- Must attain YMCA Lifeguard certification within 90 days of hire and YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor certification within 120 days of hire.
- Know and understand the Emergency Action Plan and Emergency Evacuation Routes.
- Enforce Aquatics safety rules consistently and fairly.
- Maintain positive relationships with class participants, parents, non-class members and staff.
- Promote other Aquatics programs; have knowledge of pool schedule and programs.
- Maintain certification level of physical and mental readiness. Responsible for recertification before expiration.
- Actively participate in training sessions, designated meetings and special events.
Desired Skills & Experience:
- Must be 17 years of age or older.
- Current YMCA Swim Lessons certification or equivalent.
- Current Basic Life Support, First Aid and Emergency Oxygen certifications (if required by certification organization).
- Demonstrate swim strokes and BLS/BFA/EO skills.
- Excellent hospitality skills.
- Must be willing to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
