TACOMA, Washington – Puget Sound is pleased to introduce Jay Daniels as the new head coach for the men’s and women’s swimming programs. Daniels arrives to Puget Sound after spending the previous six years as the head coach for swimming and diving at NCAA D-III Kalamazoo College.

“We are excited to have Jay deliver new energy and ideas to the program, while also appreciating the strong legacy left by Coaches Chris Myhre and Don Duncan,” said Puget Sound Director of Athletics Amy Hackett. “His understanding of how to advance an impactful NCAA Division-III experience for the student-athletes, while raising our competitive profile, will be valuable.”

Daniels was an assistant coach for one year at Kalamazoo before taking over the reins at his alma mater. Prior to returning to Kalamazoo, Daniels served as an assistant swimming coach at NCAA D-III SUNY New Paltz.

“I’d like to thank Amy Hackett and the search committee for providing me with this opportunity,” said Daniels. “The Logger community has been so welcoming throughout the interview process. I’m thrilled to be a part of Puget Sound Athletics.

During Daniels’ head coach tenure at Kalamazoo, the Hornets earned five All-American accolades and set four school records.

Daniels follows the footsteps of Chris Myhre, who announced his retirement after 32 years with the Loggers.

“Coach Myhre truly exemplifies a commitment to excellence through his coaching style,” said Daniels. “The love and dedication he displays for his athletes and the impact he has made on the swimming community and Puget Sound, is one I hope to emulate. I can’t wait to be in Tacoma! Go Loggers!”

Puget Sound will welcome Daniels to its campus mid-June.
