INDIANAPOLIS (January 25, 2023) – IUPUI swept this week’s Nike® #HLSD Swimmer of the Week awards as Dane Charleston and Gabby Puryear-Lynch take home the weekly titles. Charleston earns his first SOTW award with his impressive finishes in the 50, 100, and 200-yard back events, where he earned first place victories across the board. Puryear-Lynch also receives her first weekly award of the season with her worthy performances in the 50, 100, and 200 fly, earning top finishes in the respective events as well. This week’s Nike® #HLSD Diver of the Week award winners are back for consecutive wins as IUPUI’s Sebastian Otero and Oakland’s Ellie Chalifoux earn the deserved titles. Otero swept the men’s competition with victories in both the one and three meter dives. Chalifoux was victorious in both events on the women’s side over the weekend as well.

Charleston recorded three individual first place finishes and a second place relay finish in the Jaguars’ win over Wabash. He swept the backstroke events with the top times in the 50-yard back, 100-yard back and 200-yeard back finishing at 23.49, 50.39, and 1:50.66 respectively. He also helped his relay team to a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay.

Puryear-Lynch recorded the three fastest times in IUPUI’s win over Butler. The freshman swept all three butterfly races with the fastest times in the 50 fly, 100 fly and 200 fly, as she took the top time and set an IUPUI record in the 200 fly with a time of 2:01.86. She won the 100 fly with a time of 55.72 and clocked 25.14 to earn first-place in the 50 fly. She was also helped lead the women’s 200 medley relay to a first-place finish.

Otero swept the men’s competition against Wabash, setting a new IUPUI record in the 3-meter dive with 397.05, earning himself a first-place finish in that event. He also won the 1-meter dive with a score of 337.28.

Chalifoux totaled three first-place titles this weekend for her performances against Wayne State and Bowling Green off the diving board. She tallied two first-place finishes for the 1-meter events, and additionally secured the winning spot in the three-meter diving contest at Wayne State with a final score of 282.83.
