I have a soft spot for startups (technically swimswam is one), and when several swimswam readers sent me this Indiegogo link for Instabeat, I was simply too busy to report it.
I just checked in, and, to my surprise, Instabeat has surpassed its $35,000 goal and is now at $59,165 with a mere 10 hours left on the clock.
SwimSwam has several partners and friends who might like to license this technology, sell the product, or simply buy it for personal use.

From the Instabeat Indiegogo link:

Instabeat: Real-time tracking is crucial to achieve your training and fitness goals, but at the same time it shouldn’t disturb your head and arm motion during your swim. Instabeat’s sleek design reduces friction in the water.

Instabeat: Each color has three levels to indicate whether you are in the beginning, middle or upper limit of the zone.

It also measures your calories, number of laps and flip turns and syncs with your personal dashboard to track your progress over time.

I bought two of them! I am interested to see how high temporal resolution heart rate data can contribute to the development of better training methods. I want to know not only what my heart rate is, but how fast my heart rate *changes*, under various training conditions.
Shoulda got that three-year-old to swim for them instead.
