Indiana’s Ian Finnerty Rolls to 50.47 100 Breast to Become #3 All-Time

Indiana’s Ian Finnerty had a great swim in this morning’s prelims at the 2018 Men’s NCAA Championships. Finnerty, the Big Ten champion, put up a lifetime best 50.47 in the 100 breast. He was the only man to break 51 this morning and qualified over a second faster than anyone else. Finnerty is the heavy favorite to win tonight’s final. The only man who has been faster this year is Florida’s Caeleb Dressel, who broke the American Record with his 50.03 at SECs.

• 1st 50 Split- 23.61
• 2nd 50 Split- 26.86
• Final Time- 50.47

Finnerty’s swim makes him the 3rd fastest performer of all time, moving ahead of Texas’ Will Licon, who won NCAAs last season. Finnerty was formerly ranked #4 with his 50.72 from big Tens. His swim this morning is the 4th fastest performance ever. He now owns the 4th fastest and 8th fastest performances of all time.
