The Indiana women will be adding a new sprinter to their ranks next season, as Laurel Eiber has given her verbal commitment to join the Hoosiers. Eiber is a sprinter from the Aces Swim Club, and will graduate from Arapahoe Senior High School at the end of this school year.
Last season, Eiber was a 2-time medalist at the Colorado 5A State Championships. There, she placed 3rd in both the 50 and 100 freestyles. Throughout the season, Eiber lowered her personal best yards times in the 50 free (23.53), 200 free (1:51.89), 100 fly (56.54), and 200 IM (2:04.64).
She then carried her success into the long course season, earning a bronze medal at the 2016 Futures Championships in Austin with her 26.47 in the 50 meter free. At that meet, she swam personal bests of 1:03.33 in the 100 meter fly and 2:22.06 in the 200 meter IM.
Eiber’s Top Times:
Event | Best Time |
50 free | 23.53 |
100 free | 51.28 |
200 free | 1:51.89 |
100 fly | 56.54 |
200 IM | 2:04.64 |
Eiber’s best events fit well into the schedule of the Big Ten Championships, as the 50 free, 100 free, and 100 fly all fall on different days of the meet. Her times aren’t in scoring range yet, but she’s within a few tenths of that mark in the 50 free and about a second shy in the 100 free.
At Indiana, Eiber will train sprint free alongside Holly Spears, a Big Ten 100 free championship finalist, and Grace Vertigans, a B-finalist in the 50 and 100 freestyles. Her butterfly training group will include Christine Jensen, a championship finalist in the 100 fly at 2016 Big Tens.
