Lucas Piunti, a high school junior from Valparaiso, Indiana who swims for Chesterton High School and Duneland Swim Club, has verbally committed to Indiana University for 2021-22.

Piunti is a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American who specializes in IM and its components. He swam the 200 IM and 100 back at 2019 Indiana High School Championships, finishing 4th (1:49.69) and 6th (50.10), respectively. He also led off Chesterton’s 200 medley relay (23.33) and swam a leg on the 400 free relay (46.83). At Indiana Swimming LSC Senior Short Course Championships he went best times in the 500 free, 200 back, 200 breast, 100 fly, and 400 IM. He placed 6th in the 500 free, 4th in the 200 back, 7th in the 200 breast, 13th in the 100 fly, and 3rd in the 400 IM.
Piunti competed at Speedo Junior Nationals this summer in the 200 breast, 200 IM and 400 IM. He landed PBs in the 200 IM (2:07.56) and 400 IM (4:28.17) as well as in the 100 fly (57.98), which he time-trialed, and he finished 12th in the 400 IM.
Piunti will join Henry Bethel, Jackson Carlile, Joshua Matheny, Luke Barr, and Sean Swift in the Hoosiers’ class of 2025. He is already quite close to the conference scoring range with his best times. It took 1:47.41/3:53.06 to score in the IMs at 2019 B1G Championships.
