While Arizona’s Kevin Cordes was breaking National Age Group records in the prelims session of the Texas Invite on Friday, Incarnate Word’s Thiago Parravicini was also taking down natinoal marks, though his swim flew much more under the radar. He took 6th in the 200 breaststroke prelims with a 1:57.07, which is a new NCAA Division II National Record.
Parravicini, who is a Brazilian National, cleared the old mark set by UC San Diego’s Nicholas Korth at last year’s NCAA Championship at 1:57.19. Korth is only a sophomore this year (Parravicini is classified as a junior this year, though this is his first year with the program). That should set up a huge battle at this year’s NCAA Championships, where the record will surely be blasted again.
The Incarnate Word men finished 10th at last year’s NCAA Division II Championships, but they debuted this season as number two in the CSCAA poll.
