In-state Distance Freestyler Luke Stuart Commits to Texas A&M

Montgomery, Texas-native Luke Stuart has announced he will be swimming for Texas A&M University beginning with the 2018-19 school year. A NISCA All-American, Stuart is a senior at Montgomery High School and he swims year-round for Magnolia Aquatic Club.

“Super excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at Texas A&M University next fall! Thanks to everyone who helped along the way! Gig ‘em!”

Stuart has had a breakthrough senior year, dropping gobs of time across the board. Beginning in the fall, when he notched PBs in the 1000 free (-19.1 seconds), 100 back (N/A), and 400 IM (-6 seconds), he went on to Winter Juniors West where he finaled in both the 200 free and 500 free and took home new times in the 200 free, 500 free, and 1650 free. There he improved his 200 free time by 1 second and his 500 free by 3.5, placing 14th and 15th, respectively. (At the 2018 Summer Junior Nationals he finished 70th and 74th in the LCM version of those events.) Stuart entered the 1650 with a LCM time of 16:34.40 (which converts to 16:14.90 in SCY) and then proceeded to rip a 15:33.33 to finish 19th.

Since February he has lowered his PBs in the 50/100/200/500/1000/1650 free and 100/200 fly; the 50/200/500 free in his final high school season, all the rest at College Station Sectionals in March. Stuart was runner-up in the 200 free (1:37.75) and 500 free (4:26.11) at the 2018 UIL 6A State Championship. At Sectionals he finished 11th on the high point table with top-8 performances in the 1000/1650 free and 200 fly and a B-final showing in the 100 fly. Most notably, he took 22.1 seconds off his 1000 free time to finish second.

Top SCY times:

  • 1650 free – 15:30.42
  • 1000 free – 9:08.47
  • 500 free – 4:26.11
  • 200 free – 1:37.75
  • 200 fly – 1:47.74
  • 100 fly – 49.20

Stuart will join future Aggie teammates Alberto Gomez, Clayton Bobo, Coco Bratanov, Ethan Gogulski, Jake Schababerle, Mark Schnippenkoetter, Peter Simmons, and Shaine Casas in the class of 2022.

A&M did a great job of recruiting a very strong 2018 class out of its home state.
