We don’t have anything officially confirmed yet, but the Alabama Crimson Tide have begun to make offers to fill their vacant head coaching position, after Eric mcIlguham resigned in late March.
I think that a lot of people were waiting for the Texas job to shake out before Alabama made their call, and now that Carol Capitani has been locked-in there, Alabama becomes the top available gig.
The new name that everyone likes for this job is former Tennessee assistant/interim head coach Lars Jorgensen. He was the man with the unfortunate task of taking over the Volunteer men’s team mid-season, before it was combined with the women under Matt Kredich last week.
Jorgensen seems like a good fit there. His history is at a fellow SEC school, so he knows the lay of the conference. He’s gotten very good reviews as an assistant (and in his short time as the interim coach in a tough situation). He’s still very young, and would be a long-term solution.
One would imagine that after tasting the blood-in-the-water in his opportunity to spend a few months as a head coach of a major program, he’s hungry to make the jump permanantly now. He has previous experience as the head coach at Toledo too.
Put your antennas up, an official announcement should be out this week some time.
No AU or UT people and they have a coach. RTR.
the guy from auburn was there!!! 2 weeks ago
Neither has “the guy from Auburn.”
Heard Dennis Pursely interviewed this past weekend. Lars has not interviewed allegedly.
While I won’t use the word “imminent”, there may have been some movement and progress toward a new Alabama coach in the past few days. Something could break this week.
The “home run” person is Arthur from Louisville. Word is he turned it down. Here’s another name that I think may be a home run–Sergio Lopez from Bolles. Has college experience and is doing an impressive job at Bolles. But I still think Marsh is the logical choice.
Denny, Jonty, and even David M would all be like Bobby Valentine getting back into the majors….bad idea.
Would Steve Bultman be interested? He still owns property in Pensacola, and this would be a significant salary increase.
how do you know it would be a significant pay increase? he has a good thing going, i would like to see the impact he has in the SEC…with a&m
