Australian Olympian Passes Away…….Australia is mourning the death of New South Wales Australian swimmer, James Findlay, who passed away on May 19, 2015. Findlay competed at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, where he raced the 200m butterfly and 200m IM events. He also competed at the 1970 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, Scotland, where he earned two bronze medals; one in the 200m butterfly and one in the 400m IM.
Australian Sports Commission Lacking Women…….Despite the mandate made by the Australian Sports Commission back in 2012 that all of the boards of national sporting organizations within the country consist of 40% of female members, the Commission itself is currently failing to meet this quota. Currently, of the Commission’s seven voting directors and eight members in total, only former Winter Olympic Champion Alisa Camplin is female, and her term is actually set to expire next month. The ASC has “threatened financial sanctions for non-compliance with its mandatory government principles.” (Sydney Morning Herald) In light of this, the Office of Federal Health and Sport Minister, Sussan Ley, says that five new ASC board candidates are under consideration at the moment and “the majority of these appointments would be women.” ASC Chairman, John Wylie, added that the Commission remains “committed to the 40 per cent target and we’re happy to be judged by the same governance principles that we set for the sports. We’ve got a timing issue at the moment, but it’s a timing issue. It’s not a structural issue, I can promise you that.”
Swiss Swimmer Honored With “Male Sportsman Hope of 2014” Award…….Swiss Sport has awarded 18-year-old Nils Liess with the Male Sportsman Hope of 2014 award. Liess earned second place finishes in both the 100m and 200m butterfly events at the 2014 Junior European Championships. Additionally, Liess finaled in the 100m and 200m butterfly races at the Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, where the promising swimmer finished in 6th and 4th places, respectively. At the Multi-Nations Youth Meet in Cyprus last year, Liess took home three titles, consisting of the 200m butterfly, 200m backstroke and 400m freestyle, showing some versatile range as he matures into a future career.
Guyana Announces 2015 Pan Am Games Roster…….The Guyana Amateur Swimming Association (GASA) has announced that Omar Adams and Onika George will be representing the country of Guyana at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto, Canada this July. Paul Mahaica will serve as coach at the meet.

Heehee /Swimming & Football have the lowest % of women on the board. they should take a leaf out of the Australian Army where the face of women at the top is a Transgendee.
