Former Joliet and Morris Stingrays Swim Team head coach D. Jay Andersen has been banned for life by USA Swimming and was added to the organization’s public list on Monday.
According to a report published on August 27th on thherald-news.com, Andersen was arrested at Morris Community High School where the team’s practices were held.
According to The Herald-News, Andersen was caught on surveillance video on June 7th, 2014 “dropping something int the beer bottle of a woman” while she stepped away to use the restroom. The woman in questions says that she noticed the bottle had been moved and saw the pill and did not drink from it. On July 3rd, the woman participated in an undercover operation by Lombard police.
According to the Office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court in DuPage County, Illinois, Andersen was charged with one count of Disorderly Conduct and one count of Assault. Andersen’s next scheduled court date is December 18th.
Andersen was banned under Section 304.3.19 of the USA Swimming Conduct, which is read in its entirety below:
304.3.19 Any other material and intentional act, conduct or omission not provided for above, which is detrimental to the image or reputation of USA Swimming, a LSC or the sport of swimming.
My first thought was that it would be premature to ban him for life before a guilty verdict came back, but then I read that he was caught on camera. Good riddance.
