Hungary dominated night 4 of the 2016 European Championships, kicked off by Boglarka Kapas‘ win in the women’s 800m freestyle. Katinka Hosszu added an individual win in the form of her 200m IM victory, while also adding a silver to the Hungarian medal kitty finishing 2nd to Denmark’s Rie Nielsen in the 100m backstroke.
Hosszu kept her momentum going with an impressive anchor on her squad’s 4×200 freestyle relay to add another gold to her credit. Laszlo Cseh made his mark, as the 30-year old threw down the world’s fastest 200m butterfly, winning decisively ahead of defending European title holder Viktor Bromer.
Ross Murdoch added a gold to the British team’s total topping Germany’s Marco Koch in the men’s 200m breaststroke, while Jaz Carlin nabbed silver in the 800m freestyle. Brits Siobhan-Marie O’Connor and Hannah Miley swam away with respective silver and bronze to give GBR two more medals. Finally, Kathleen Dawson surprised the field by winning her first international medal, a bronze, in the 100m backstroke, establishing a new Scottish Record in the process.

Golden age of Hungarian swimming right now.
Yeah absolutely. And there are young swimmers as well so there is a future.
But it is true that Katinka and Laszlo will be hard to replace. This will be Laszlo’s last Olimpics.
Katinka said that there is one more in her… but she is also not young.
Crazy that our government spend a lot more on football (where we are quite week) and not to swimming…
Very impressive, wonder if he will be much faster in Rio?
