On SwimSwam Podcast, we’re giving you an in-depth listen at all things swimming. Host Coleman Hodges welcomes guests and guest co-hosts alike to get perspective on our ever-changing swimming universe and break down the past, present, and future of aquatic sports.
We sat down with Lenny Krayzelburg, the 4-time Olympic gold medalist who is known for being buff. Lenny’s story is one of the American Dream: his family came over to America when he was a child, and he had to commute via train an hour 1-way just to swim on a daily basis. He started his college swimming career at a community college while working full time to support his family. After 1 year, he was presented the opportunity to train with Mark Schubert and his elite crew us USC.
Lenny describes his ascent to Olympic victory and more in today’s episode of SwimSwam Podcast.

Nobody is going to mention the setup on the 2nd best looking swimmer? That one was teed up perfectly…absolute comedy gold!
I had the pleasure of working w Lenny a bit at the OTC prior to that unshaved and then shaved wr… we even played a little hoop together and I took him to the hole. Dont let him say anything different. But he was so professional and so easy to get along with, and while i was surrounded by incredible athletes every day there, Lenny was one of the standout ATHLETES, this guy could do it all. Bad shoulders and all he dunked on me. Ill get him back one day.
Great interview Mel. Great questions and an amazing guest. Keep up all the great work Mel and Lenny…. loved every second
d
umm, can he give advice on how to make my jaw look like that? he looks like a ken doll. in a good way..
Great interview with Lenny especially his insight into his motivation for joining ISL and how he can add value in athletes lives .. just really curious to know more about what’s happening with ISL this year and more teasers as I feel Coleman avoided the question when thrown by Mel towards the end ..
Ps is that a man crush on Lenny krayzelburg by Mel haha
I’m a big Lenny fan … been following his progress since 1997 pan pacs .. and of course he competed in my hometown Olympics as the star backstroker
Great to see he’s still pretty fit
Lenny was one of my favorites as a kid but I had no idea about his story. I just loved watching him race and seeing his interviews, he seemed like such a good guy. And as I was a teenager girl I won’t even pretend like he was hard on the eyes. But wow, what a story of dedication and perseverance. So glad he’s still involved with the sport, the ISL is in good hands with Lenny as one of the leaders.
Had the honor and privilege to work with Lenny in 2001 at World Maccabiah Games in Israel. Now I have the honor and privilege to call him a friend! Great interview, amazing story, amazing person!
What an incredible success story – proof that so much is possible if you do what needs to be done to get through obstacles.
