Katie Higgins has verbally committed to swim for the University of Houston, beginning with the 2017-18 season. A two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American from Scottsdale, Arizona, Higgins swims for Veritas Preparatory Academy and Phoenix Swim Club. Higgins is the reigning Arizona State High School Division II champion in the 100 fly (55.39) and the fourth-place finisher in the 100 back (1:00.08).
Swimming for Phoenix Swim Club, Higgins finished the long course season with a strong meet at Mount Hood Sectionals, where she scored top-8 in the 100m fly and top-16 in the 200m fly. Higgins also competed in the 50 free and 100 back.
Her best SCY times include:
- 100 fly – 55.39
- 200 fly – 2:09.14
- 50 free – 24.94
- 100 free – 54.56
- 100 back – 1:00.08
Higgins will add immediate firepower to the Cougars’ lineup; her 100 fly would already have scored in the B final at the 2016 American Athletic Conference Championships, and she’s not far off in the 200 fly and 50 free (the AAC only scores two finals).
