Hungarian Iron Lady Katinka Hosszu continues to be a powerhouse at the 2016 Hungarian Short Course Nationals in Százhalombatta. On day 3, she went head-to-head again with Boglarka Kapas, a 2016 Rio Olympic medalist, in a distance free showdown. Hosszu was once again victorious, breaking the 4-minute barrier on the way to a 3:59.78 victory ahead of Kapas’ 4:03.03.
Hosszu continued on to win 2 more races throughout the session. In the 100 IM, she posted the only sub-minute time to win in 59.53. She then won the 50 back in 27.41, half a second ahead of silver medalist Sara Joo, who also swam sub-28 with her 27.90.
On the men’s side, Gergely Gyurta and Peter Bernek got a chance for a rematch after they went 1-2 in last night’s 400 IM final. Gyurta picked up another gold there, winning the race in 14:29.95. Bernek finished about 4 seconds behind to take home another silver with his 14:34.12.
Bernek also swam the 200 fly final tonight, where he finished just off the podium in 4th. Battling for the win in that race were David Verraszto and Olympic bronze medalist Tamas Kenderesi. The two swimmers were within a half second of each other at the 100, but Verraszto built his slight lead to take the gold in 1:54.35 to Kenderesi’s 1:55.03.
There’s definitely something wrong with Kapas’ management. (Actually Daniel Gyurta has just said goodbye to the very same coaches.) If someone could explain to me why she did not race all along the World Cup whilst being the absolute favorite in 400 and 800 free. In Tokyo she swam 8:12.79 and 3:59.15 on 800 and 400 respectively. Also, she has a “normal” woman body and a bit shorter than her main rival, Carlin, so practicing the turns over races would be essential right before the WC in Canada, where Ledeczky won’t be present.
She went in 11 race and won ALL of them 🙂

And how many meters swum in competition?
I’m pretty sure a swim nerd can calculate that very quickly. There are many swim nerds on swimswam.
Since 2013 and her transformation into a swimming machine with new training methods, the numbers must be absolutely crazy.
I’m sure there are ways to calculate it, but I lost count around 352363113535. 😉
