Hungarian superstar Katinka Hosszu demolished the women’s 200 backstroke championship record in the prelims and then broke her own record in a winning effort in tonight’s final.
In the prelims Hosszu posted a 1:59.95 crushing Ukrainian Daryna Zevina‘s record of 2:01.97, which she set in 2012. In the final Hosszu took the event in a time of 1:59.84 almost two seconds ahead of Russian Daria Ustinova.
In the final she was ahead of her world record pace at the 100 meter mark, but fell off after that point.
