UC Santa Barbara junior Emily Ward (San Leandro, CA) combined for six wins over two Gaucho dual victories against Pacific (Jan. 26) and UC Davis (Jan. 27). She took first-place in the 50 free (23.96) and 200 free (1.50.96) vs. Pacific, two wins in the 100 free (51.59; 51.84), along with anchoring two 400 free relay wins (52.79; 51.32-meet’s fastest split). This is Ward’s second career MPSF weekly award (Oct. 25, 2017).

MASON TITTLE OF UCSB MPSF/TYR MALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
UC Santa Barbara senior Mason Tittle (Walnut Creek) took part in three wins for the Gaucho men as they defeated Pacific (Jan. 26), finishing the 50 free in 19.77, 100 free in 44.53, and 400 free relay in a 44.11 split as the lead-off. He also swam the fly leg for the second-place 200 medley relay (21.33). This is the third career MPSF weekly award for Tittle, and he is just the second male to be a repeat winner this season.

UCSB, CAL POLY SWEEP DUALS; HORNBERGER SETS UCD RECORD
UCSB women won a pair of home meets, 147-91 over Pacific (Jan. 26) and 153-109 over UC Davis (Jan. 27)…the men posted a win over Pacific, 137-93… Emily Ward totaled six wins over the two meets…she took first in the 50 free (23.96) and 200 free (1.50.96) vs. Pacific, two wins in the 100 free (51.59; 51.84), along with two 400 free relay wins (52.79. 51.32)… Mason Tittle took part in three wins for the Gaucho men, finishing the 50 free in 19.77, 100 free in 44.53, and 400 free relay in 44.11 as the lead-off split.
UC DAVIS won a home dual over San Jose State, 164.5-103.5, before falling in a dual at UCSB… In addition to capturing her third NCAA Zone Qualifying score on the one-meter diving board (267.23), Taylor Hornberger set a school record with her first career zone qualifying score on the three-meter (301.91) vs. SJSU… the three-meter mark was the best in the MPSF this year…Iris Brand was a triple winner in the 50 free (24.09), 100 free (52.11), and 200 free (1:52.47)…. Solie Laughlin (100 back-55.83, 200 back-2:00.98) and Mia Motekaitis (200 free-1.51.00; 500 free-5:00.40) both doubled at UCSB.
CAL POLY Paul Rogers anchored the winning 400 free relay and won the 1650 free (15:45.59), good for the second fastest time in the MPSF this season, in a 190-99 men’s win at UC Santa Cruz…. Amanda Feick won two events and was a part of the winning 200 medley relay in a 197-91 women’s win over UC Santa Cruz…she won the 200 breast (2:21.50) and 200 IM (2:07.97).
BYU Gwen Gustafson won both the women’s 50 free (23.54) and 100 free (51.44) at Utah, and split a 50.89 on the 400 free relay… Morgan Mellow achieved an NCAA Zone-Qualifying 297.38 on the three-meter board… Payton Sorenson was a 50 free and 100 free winner for the men, finishing in 20.57 and 46.3, and split a 43.88 on the 400 free relay.
UC SAN DIEGO Edgar Chin won the 100 breast with a 54.97 ‘B’ cut, as the Triton men competed against No. 1 California (Jan. 26)…he also swam the breaststroke for a pair of second-place relays, 200 medley relay (24.76 split) and 400 medley relay (54.85 split).
PACIFIC Angel Alcala took first-place in the men’s 100 and 200 backstroke events at UCSB (Jan. 26), clocking in at 49.56 and 1:49.06, respectively… Brigid McNally led the Tiger women with wins in the 500 free (4:58.42) and 200 IM (2:07.60), in addition to anchoring the first-place 400 free relay.
