We made it through April, which was a month stacked with international Trial meets all aimed at qualification for the 2022 FINA World Aquatics Championships set for late June in Budapest.
- As a reminder, you can see all World Championships rosters as they are revealed here.
The month of May still brings some notable competitions, primarily the 2022 Southeast Asian Games, the Australian Swimming Championships and the first stop of the 2022 Mare Nostrum circuit.
As such, make note of the following lineup of elite international meets and let me know in the comments of any I may have inadvertently missed.
04/30 – 05/03 Polish Open (POL)
05/14 – 05/22 Southeast Asian Games (VIE)
05/06 – 05/08 Meeting International Swann Oberson (SUI)
05/13 – 05/15 Acropolis Swim Open (GRE)
05/21 – 05/22 Mare Nostrum Monaco (MON)
05/25 – 05/26 Mare Nostrum Barcelona (ESP)
So much awesome swimming all around the world. Shame it’s not easy or possible to watch on tv or stream. I can get every imaginable college baseball game for schools I’ve barely heard of on ESPN+, but not excellent swim racing. US trials for World Champs was fun to watch. Would love to regularly see elite swimming events from around the world, even if on replay.
Aussie trials will be on Prime Video in a couple of weeks if you’re a subscriber.
There’s also Polish Open 4/30-5/03 in Łódź Poland
Hi south East Asian (sea) games is in Vietnam. Not China. And swimming at sea games is from 14-22 May.
2022 Southeast Asian Games is in Hanoi, Vietnam beginning May 14th to 20th.
Monaco Mare Nostrum May 21, 22
Also Barcelona May 25-26.
Barcelona is on there twice now
Three weeks til Aussie trials! No doubt the 2 and a bit weeks after US trials but before Aus trials will be rife with speculation.
It’s been a bit annoying having the last trials of the major swimming nations this year. Entries close on the 3rd so the entry list should be out soon after. Will be interesting to see how many juniors will make the trip.
I would think a lot. Four individual Olympic medalists are missing from very competitive events, including all three relays for both genders. Now is the chance for juniors to make a mark!
