We’re about to enter the final month of 2021, a year that saw many events take place which were postponed from 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, including the Summer Olympic Games.
The FINA Short Course World Championships represent a big draw for athletes around the world this December with the 6-day affair kicking off on the 16th in Abu Dhabi. Before that, however, the International Swimming League (ISL) season 3 finale will go down on December 3rd and 4th in Eindhoven.
Sprinkled throughout the world are national championships to keep things lively before we enter the year 2022, one with a full lineup of elite meets including both Long Course and Short Course World Championships.
Please let me know in the comments of any meets I may have inadvertently missed.

I thought Short Course Worlds were in Kazan? Has it been moved to UAE?
Next year’s SC Worlds is in Kazan.
Winter Juniors East/West? Or are they not high-caliber enough
These lists focus on senior meets at the national level.
Any word on when psych sheet for US Open is going to be released? I am a college coach who is wanting to have some insight on who is going to be on my radar.
Historically, USA Swimming drops psychs the Friday before a big meet. But, I don’t imagine they’re working this weekend, so maybe Monday?
Meet missed: Swim England National Winter Championships (25m)..
Dates: 3-5 December.
I’m surprised not more Aussies from the ISL wish to compete in Abu Dhabi …especially Kyle’s bestie Zac Incerti who just transferred to Adelaide
Perhaps Kaylee will stay at USC Spartans now that Zac’s old coach, Mick Palfrey, has moved there with Cook and Throssel following him.
Well I don’t think the quarantine situation is certain in Australia yet, so it’s quite possible that anyone in Abu Dhabi for SCW will miss the whole holiday season at home after being gone for months.
Depends which state in Australia you’re referring to… I think you’d find you can’t just generalise Australia as a whole when it comes to borders and quarantine rules etc

Adam Peaty said on Instagram he’ll be in UAE next month which suggests he’s going to SCW right?
He also said he’s doing another book signing in London in early December “after he gets back from a holiday”. So either he’s going on a holiday right before worlds or he’s going to Eindhoven.
I can’t wait for 8 days from now when the ISL final is over and I can go back to not caring about Adam Peaty lol
Where on Instagram did he say that? I doubt he’d say he’s going on holiday if he’s going to ISL.

Britain still hasn’t named him to their team publicly. So unless he’s going in some kind of ambassador role, or just to watch, might just be a coincidence:

Ok then he’s probably going to Dubai for a holiday which explains both statements and means no more swimming from him this year.
goodbye any slim chance that we had of winning then i guess.
The thing is, the times in the playoffs have been so slow. Almost none of them have been faster than last year’s final. Troyy worked out yesterday that if the times in the second playoffs were the exact same times in the final, London would be a close second to Energy going into skins. So it’s really anyone’s game, and the match will be decided by which swimmers are able to drop time in the next week and which aren’t.
It’s possible that Roar’s male and female backstrokers sweep all 6 back events if they’re having a good day. It’s also possible they win none of them if they’re not. So much uncertainty.
I wouldn’t say Roar has no… Read more »
Not sure why you’re dismissing Chalmers in free skins. He’s one of only three swimers (Dressel (21.25), Chalmers (21.76), Morozov (21.78)) to go under 22 in the final round. This is probably why the other teams have always eliminated free so far this season.
Yeah that’s a fair point. I’ve mainly been going off actual results so far this year, which would place Dressel and Proud above him, which is basically worst case scenario,
I probably am being a bit dismissive.
Honestly with Shymanovich there in the final its very possible we get no points at all in the breaststrokes and in Male Backstroke I don’t see Guido and Diener beating Murphy and a tapered Rylov in the 100/200. However, Kira should win the 50 and 100 on the Womens side and Minna and Guido have a decent chance to upset nelson and Kolesnikov/Murphy in the 200 (Female) and 50 (Male) Backstrokes but even if that does happen I don’t see us being within 50 points of energy before skins due to the amount of points we’ll lose in the male Breaststrokes and the amount of jackpots Sjostrom may pick up in the 50 Free/fly
But I do think Roar have… Read more »
I think it depends who is on relay only. Last match Carter was relay only and our men’s 50 fly got negative points. I guess I was going off that, but if they did put Chalmers and Carter in (neither of whom seem to swim the 50 fly event) then it’s actually not too bad. But Dressel is guaranteed to win skins in it.
In my mind I’m thinking:
Free: Dressel is guaranteed to win, Cali get more points than us and the final is quite possibly Energy and Cali
Breast: Energy and Cali are likely to be the 2 in the final as well.
Fly: Dressel absolutely wins. I think I was putting too much stock in Le… Read more »
Carter wasn’t relay only they just used him to lead off the mixed medley relay instead. They’ll be able to use him in 50 fly again if both skins aren’t backstroke.
I see. Clearly I misunderstood that. I find it hard to follow with swimmers being chucked around in different events depending on how everyone is feeling and depending on what the skins stroke is. The jackpots and skins selections make things so complicated.
I also am shocked that Laukkanen scored over 100 points last season and this season she’s scored 1 point. Even though she’s been at every match. I don’t understand ISL clearly lol
I’ll be very interested to see how the skins selections go. Obviously the teams that get to select aren’t known, but if we assume that LAC gets shut out in all 3:
Men
Roar doesn’t want breast. Cali also doesn’t want breast (despite Fink being a good option they won’t want Shymanovich) but also doesn’t want back (unless Stewart turns himself around). Energy doesn’t really have a weakness but Fly is probably their worst.
Men:
If Roar eliminates first, they would probably eliminate breast. Then Cali probably eliminates back, and Energy probably chooses free. Or if London really wants back, knowing that Cali will have to eliminate breast if they don’t, Roar could eliminate free first, forcing Cali… Read more »
The skins changes are good but ISL wouldn’t do that because they love the drama of having the match undecided until the skins.
I hate that though. Basketball would probably be more exciting if all points in the last 5 minutes were worth triple, but they don’t, because it ruins the integrity of the game.
Obviously ISL is trying to be more “fun” swimming so they’re probably not overly concerned about integrity. But the meets go for literally 4 hours over two days with 39 events. There really is no point if it just becomes a ‘winner takes all’ situation at the end.
Ignoring jackpots, it’s possible for one team to score 3 points and another team to score 52 points. That’s about 10% of a competitive team’s point total. And that’s jsut in ONE skins race.
I agree totally.
