Henrik Pohlmann Verbally Commits to Virginia

Tis the season, everyone, of college recruiting and commitments and I doubt anyone is as excited and up to date as we are. Just this past weekend, Henrik Pohlmann made the verbal commitment to the University of Virgina to join Augie Busch and his fresh staff of Cory Chitwood (assistant swimming), Sam Busch (assistant swimming), Clif Robbins (assistant swimming) and Jason Glorius (head diving).

Pohlmann hails out of Beavercreek, Ohio where he trained with the Dayton Raiders and Beavercreek High School alongside his brother Jack Pohlmann who is now a sophomore breaststroker at Princeton University. Henrik has proven to be an extremely valuable asset to relays. Call it nerves, pressure or what have you, but his fastest sprint times have all been leading off relays.

This past summer at the 2013 Junior National Championships in Irvine, California Pohlmann threw down a 56.71 in his 100 meter back and then a 56.45 when he lead off the 400 medley relay for the Raiders, which ended up giving him 3rd place individually and another 3rd place with the relay. His 200 meter back prelim time was a personal best for him with a 2:02.65.

His short course times are nothing less than impressive as well: a 49.68 100 yard back and 1:46.98 200 yard back speak for themselves. With his strengths obviously stated, let’s hope we see him pick up his longer events again with great time drops. His 400 yard IM time of 3:56.48 shows real potential, especially at the green age of 16.
