Norwegian Henrik Christiansen lowered his National Record in the final of the men’s 1500 free on day eight of the 2019 World Championships to finish fifth overall.
The 22-year-old put up a time of 14:45.35, getting well under his previous best of 14:49.67 set this past April at the Swim Open – Stockholm. Prior to that, his Norwegian mark stood at 14:53.77, set at the same meet in 2016.
SPLIT COMPARISON
Relative to his swim earlier in the year, Christiansen sat slightly under its pace throughout most of the race. The biggest difference came on the final 200, where he closed in 1:56.53 compared to 1:58.90 in Stockholm.

David Aubry of France also entered the top-20 in history in the final, improving from 40th to 13th with his French Record of 14:44.72 to place fourth.
German Florian Wellbrock won gold in a time of 14:36.88, as he was able to out-kick Mykhailo Romanchuk (14:37.63) and two-time defending champ Gregorio Paltrinieri (14:38.75) on the last 100. The three medalists are the same (and in identical order) to last year’s European Championships, where Christiansen also placed fifth.
