Hear How Lochte Will Be Tackling ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Competition

The 2nd most decorated Olympic swimmer of all time, Ryan Lochte, is taking on an entirely new challenge outside the pool in the near future. As announced on August 30th, 32-year-old Lochte will be appearing as a contestant on the 23rd season of ‘Dancing With The Stars’, a reality show dance competition appearing on the ABC Network.

In the above video, 4-time Olympian Lochte describes how he’ll be approaching the dance contest with the same competitive spirit with which he typically attacks his swimming.

“One thing I have going for me is my work ethic,” describes Lochte when discussing how he plans on setting himself apart from his rivals on the dance floor.  “Now that I’m taking a break from swimming, I wanted to still tap into my competitive edge.” This time, however, he’ll be digging deep while wearing rhinestones as opposed to cutting edge water-repelling technology.

For partner, professional dancer Cheryl Burke, she already gives the former Florida Gator some posture tips in the video to kick-off their partnership. Burke had taken over a year off from the show, but is back with a renewed passion and is thrilled to be paired with Lochte as they begin their competitive dance journey.

The competition begins on September 12th on ABC.

I think this is a good venture for him. American people are very forgiving and hopefully this fun natured competition will change the dialogue. Ryan, that means “talk”.

Oh boy! He needs to get off the media and public attention for a while. He should do volunteer work in the slums and Favelas of Brazil. That would earn him lots of respect and admiration. hmmmm…but I doubt that will happen. Jeah!!

I suspect that if Lochte was to do some charity work in Brazil, even in slums or Favelas, many might perceive it as insincere and an attempt not to help Brazil, but to get back in people’s good graces. Now maybe more people wouldn’t think that and would perceive it as him genuinely trying to make up for his mistakes, but he would probably have to think carefully about how any actions might be percieved. Additionally, there’s probably still lingering concern that he could be subject to legal proceedings should he return, though that concern might diminish with time.

I’m not sure how reality TV casting and planning goes, but I would assume that Lochte had signed up to be… Read more »

I wonder if that groin injury will affect him. He didn’t look very mobile post racing at trials and rio.
