CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – A trio of America East schools were in action over this past week. Binghamton took part in a two-day event against UMass. New Hampshire battled against Central Connecticut in Durham, and Vermont traveled to Loudonville, New York, and took on the Saints of Siena. Here are the third weekly award winners of the season:
Swimmer Performer of the Week
Jessica Harper, New Hampshire, Freshman, Easthampton, Mass.
- Jessica Harper won three individual events in a 168-124 victory over Central Connecticut State University.
- Harper logged the top time in the 100-yard backstroke (57.68), 200-yard IM, (2:08.75), and the 500-yard freestyle (4:55.32). Harper’s time in the 500-yard freestyle was a career best.
- Harper also took part in the victorious 200-yard medley relay (1:47.65), which also included Oneida Cooper, Liza Baykova, and Katie Mann.
- This is Harper’s second consecutive selection as the America East Swimmer of the Week.
- New Hampshire defeated the Blue Devils 168-124.
Diver Performer of the Week
Maggie Preston, Vermont, Junior, West Hartford, Conn.
- Maggie Preston won both the one-meter and three-meter events for the second consecutive meet.
- Preston recorded her top score of the season in the one-meter dive, registering a 230.40. The mark was also the highest among America East competitors this week.
- The junior won the three-meter diving event, scoring 226.70.
- Vermont defeated the Siena Saints 169-119.
Swimming & Diving Notes
- Binghamton University took part in a two-day dual meet against UMass at the Patricia A. Saunders Aquatic Center. The Bearcats fell the Minutemen 192-125. It was Head Coach Brad Smith’s first meet at the helm of BU.
- Bearcat senior Caitlyn Kelly finished the dual meet with two individual wins, and was part of the victorious record setting 200-medley relay team (1:46.82).
- New Hampshire hosted Central Connecticut at Swasey Pool, and defeated the Blue Devils 168-124. Freshmen Jessica Harper took home three individual events and was part of the winning 200-medley relay team. Eight separate Wildcats won solo events.
- Vermont took care of business at Siena, defeating the Saints 169-119. The Catamounts won 12 of the 16 events, and set pool record in the 200-yard medley relay, 200-yard free relay and 100-yard breaststroke.
- Maggie Preston won both the one-meter and three-meter diving events for the second straight week. Preston posted her top score of the season in the one-meter with a 230.40 total, and won the three-meter with a score of 226.70.
- In the upcoming week, Binghamton travels to Drexel for a meet-up; Maine hosts Boston College along with conference foe Maine; New Hampshire will race against Rhode Island.
